As the fourth “Merriment” pattern, it should come as no surprise that this particular motif is quite cherished to me.  The first pattern, the Merriment Stocking, was designed and knit for my younger daughter as her first Christmas gift.  With the yarn leftovers, I was able to knit her a matching sweater and then bonnet to finish off the ensemble (patterns 2 &3).  All these gifts were worked during late Yuletide evenings and the “Merriment Patterns” still conjure up the memories of silent nights by the fire, knitting quickly under the warm glow of holiday lights.

A couple years later, I whipped up an adult sized Merriment as my Rhinebeck sweater and fully intended to publish the pattern soon after.  Finally, over three(!) years later, it’s here.  I have worn My Merriment cardigan dressed up to weddings, out on everyday errands, and as the perfect compliment to my pajamas as I’m winding down in the evenings.  It’s versatility has been a constant reminder of the season of life when it was knit.  My hope is that you find the same feelings of warmth, comfort, and togetherness in the process of knitting this sweater, and that the adaptability of the finished product enriches your current wardrobe!
